Tillforge is a configuration management database and control plane for POS estates. It manages, configures, deploys, and patches store devices at scale, built for the way retail actually runs, not for a corporate office network.
Why Tillforge Exists
Most deployment and patch tools are built for corporate IT: branch offices on fat, reliable links, with room to push whatever you want whenever you want. Retail is not that. Retail is hundreds of stores, some on thin or unreliable internet, each with a narrow window where you are allowed to touch the tills at all, and a checkout that cannot go down during trading.
Tillforge exists because that gap kept biting. Patch a fleet of stores with a tool that assumes bandwidth, and you either saturate the line or blow the service window. So Tillforge was built the other way around: pre-stage the files ahead of time, throttle the download so it never chokes a store's connection, cap the daily data, respect the maintenance window, and install later when it is safe.
Bring a till up from a signed template and let someone already in the store activate it, instead of sending an engineer. Treat a POS estate the way modern IT treats servers: one source of truth, repeatable deployments, approvals, and an audit trail you can trust. That is the tool we wanted and could not find, so we built it.
